Fans of Deadliest Catch seem to be growing tired of the scripted conversations on the reality TV show in recent seasons. Several viewers took to Reddit to discuss changes they’ve noticed and how everything seems to be “fake.” Continue reading to see why they feel this way.

Everything On Deadliest Catch Has Become ‘Fake’

In the r/deadliestcatch subreddit, someone started a conversation about how legitimate the later seasons of Deadliest Catch really are. They wrote, “Always watched this show off and on when it was on cable. Now that it’s on HBO Max I’ve started it over from the beginning and am now on season 15.” The person went on to say that it was “incredibly sad” how every conversation happening on the show seems to be fake now.

The viewer took to Reddit to ask other fans of the show if they shared the same sentiment, stating that Season 14 was the “last half decent realistic season.” Surprisingly, many of them felt the same way about the last few seasons of Deadliest Catch.

Many people joined in on the thread to agree with the original poster. One person pointed out that everything since Season 9 has seemed fake. It seems like many people think that the best parts of the show were within the first few seasons.

“The confrontations were clearly out of fatigue and the show was a truly great documentary on crab fishing and human nature. Now days everything is fake, so apparently that’s what they think we, the viewers, like,” one person commented. Another person said that they got sick of the show after Season 11. They haven’t tuned in to watch since then.

Have Producers Lost Sight Of Why Viewers Watch?

After the first few seasons, it feels like Deadliest Catch producers lost sight of what viewers wanted to see from the show.

“The audience enjoys and prefers a factual documentary series that OCCASIONALLY catches something awesome because that is how real life actually is,” one Redditor wrote. “Most people myself included were perfectly happy watching this group of tough men fish and craft a living and were vicariously thrilled when they struck bearing sea gold, or had a genuine emergency or genuine drama.”

However, it seems like much of the genuine drama and real-life situations have disappeared from the show in more recent seasons. Instead, producers seem focused on creating drama instead of documenting what really happens.

With drama being created so often throughout the series, it no longer feels real because it’s not. “The best thing the show can do is to fire the producers, give a few brave souls some cameras, and just film these crab fisherman day to day,” one person stated in the comments on Reddit.
