‘Blind Frog Ranch’ Recent Episodes Called Out As Too Fake

Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch is a Discovery Channel show that looks at a family hunting for buried treasure. It is similar to The Curse of Oak Island but is mostly a family affair that takes place in Utah. However, in recent seasons, many fans have decided that the reality TV show has become too fake and scripted.

Here is what fans think has caused Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch to jump the shark.

Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch called out as ‘too fake’

The Discovery Channel reality show got its start when Duane Ollinger’s family bought a 160-acre plot in Utah called Blind Frog Ranch. The entire purpose of the purchase was to search for buried treasure on this plot of land. This all started with Duane’s father. Now, Duane and his son Chad are following in his footsteps, looking for treasure.

It also isn’t just the Ollingers; many others believe there are precious metals buried in the land. However, there is another part of the show that brings in fans is the paranormal aspect. Lightning always strikes the location and there remain a ton of urban legends surrounding the land. This is also where many people feel that the show has gotten a little too fake, as it emphasizes these urban legends.

One fan started a Reddit thread about this exact concern. While this fan felt that things were getting a little too fake in recent episodes, other fans said it has always been this way. The OP wrote that this season alone has had storylines concerning Aztec gold, Mormons, freemasons, and even the Lock Ness Monster. It has gotten to be too much for this one specific viewer.

However, others quickly agreed.

“This show was always fake a** bulls**t. I watch it with the mindset that it is a fictional comedy series.”
“I could walk out in my backyard and make the same claims and it would be equally ridiculous.”
“Now it has changed to gold from the Mormon church. What will it be next?”
“If they ever found anything of real value, it would be all over the news.”
Has Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch always been this way?
This isn’t new. Three years ago, a different Reddit thread popped up with the idea that the location itself might be faked. “Does anyone else think this show is stupid and all set up?” the OP wrote. “The nugget they pull and a Spanish coin they pull out of the same hole seem sooo fake.”

This led to plenty of people saying the same thing back then about the Discovery reality TV show.

“It reminds me waaaaaaaay too much of Oak Island. The level of stupid I’ve already seen in show #1 is pretty high.”
“It’s so stupid do they really believe skinwalkers and shapeshifters are real and they are in danger?”
“I watched it and it felt like a put on but I still wonder if there’s some truth to it.”
Some people point out that Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch lists the people in the credit as “talent,” which sounds a lot like a term for actors. These are also claims that have come up when it comes to The Curse of Oak Island, which uses more conspiracy theories than supernatural aspects when it comes to treasure hunting. However, as popular as that show is, it is no wonder that Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch is in its third season now.

Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch airs on Discovery Channel on Wednesday nights at 10/9c.
