Fans of the actor are hoping he might show up again in Port Charles.
Charles Shaughnessy fans are hoping he will return to General Hospital
Charles Shaughnessy just wrapped up his stint as Victor Cassadine on General Hospital and some fans are actually grieving. Victor was a cad but Shaughnessy portrayed him so brilliantly that many viewers did not desire to see him go although he had to. The storyline was going in a direction where Victor did some serious damage and there was no coming back. There were no witnesses to many of his crimes but he shot Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) in front of Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stewart).
Kidnapping Spencer Cassadine (Nikolas Chaves) Baby Ace (Jay and Joey Clay) and Liesl Obrecht (Kathlene Gati) only added to the charges which grew after he docked the Haunted Star in Greenland. Now some fans are wondering if GH could possibly bring the actor back as a different character since the actor is so beloved and already missed.
General Hospital has brought actors back before
Shaughnessy became a hero and a legend on Days of Our Lives when he portrayed Shane Donovan an ISA agent who was married to Kimberly Brady Donovan (Patsy Pease). The duo was one of the first super couples on soaps during the 1980s. He later gained notoriety as Maxwell Sheffield starring with Fran Drescher on The CBS primetime series The Nanny.
Michael Easton who portrays Hamilton Finn has had 3 roles on the ABC soap and originally joined the General Hospital cast as John McBain a character he portrayed on One Life to Live. When it was revealed that OLTL owned the rights to the character Easton began playing Silas Clay and now he is Finn. Roger Howarth also started out as his OLTL character Todd Manning and later became Francl Baldwin and now portrays Austin Gatlin Holt.
Wes Ramsey fans were hoping that once Peter August died that he might return as a different character and work with Laura Wright (Carly Spencer) who he is dating off-screen. There is no sign that Ramsey will return but that won’t deter Shaughnessy’s followers. Victor’s death indicates that the rest of the Cassadine Clan can forge a different future. Valentin Spencer, and Ace can move forward without any known danger.
Good riddance to Victor
Something to consider is that it would not be the same if Shaughnessy played a different character on General Hospital because Victor was so dastardly but viewers would learn to adjust. Some GH watchers are now wondering if the patriarch of the family might return in dreams or as a vision from the afterlife like Constance Townes (Helen Cassadine). Spoilers and fans on social media are already speculating about whether or not Victor is really dead but Shaughnessy had stated weeks ago that his time had come to an end and his exit was near.
Shaughnessy gave interviews where he said he loved portraying Victor and was thankful that the GH writers gave him such a meaty role. Some viewers had thought he might woo and or marry Ava Cassadine (Maura West) and they would live in the Cassadine Mansion together but that did not happen. Port Charles will be adjusting to the changes but things should be back to normal in no time.
It won’t be the same without Victor but perhaps now Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) and Spencer can have a chance at love and Anna and Valentin van do the same. Fans of the actor can be on the lookout for interviews he may give and updates related to his next role and or whether or not he might make a return to Port Charles on General Hospital as someone different. Goof riddance to Victor but best of luck to Charles Shaughnessy wherever the future takes him.
